Otago Southern Region PHO was formed in 2004 to work on a local level in bringing together primary health care services and health promotion for its enrolled population.
Otago Southern Region PHO currently funds services for an enrolled population of over 17,500 throughout the Otago southern region. There are 10.6 FTE contracted General Practitioners and 24 Practice Nurses providing primary health care services in the Otago Southern Region PHO.
The Otago Southern Region PHO area covers Tapanui, Roxburgh, Lawrence, Milton, Owaka, and Balclutha regions.
The Otago Southern Region PHO works with the local community to:
- Coordinate primary health care across different
service areas
- Improve access to primary health care for the community
- Promote health awareness by encouraging people to take responsibility for their own health care
- Identify and assist in removing health inequalities
- Improve access to primary health care services.
